Website Not Loading After Changing Nameservers
If your site is not loading after a nameserver change, DNS propagation may still be in progress. Here's what to check.
Website Not Loading After Nameserver Change
After updating nameservers, your website may not load immediately. This is normal — DNS changes take time to propagate globally.
How Long Does Propagation Take?
- Kenya (Safaricom, Airtel, Telkom): 2–6 hours
- Africa: 6–12 hours
- Global: Up to 48 hours
Step 1 — Check Propagation Status
Visit whatsmydns.net, enter your domain, and select A record. You will see which regions have updated and which are still showing old records.
Step 2 — Flush Your Local DNS Cache
Your computer may be caching old DNS records.
Windows:ipconfig /flushdns
Mac:
sudo dscacheutil -flushcache; sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder
Chrome browser: Visit chrome://net-internals/#dns and click Clear host cache.
Step 3 — Try a Different Network
Switch from your office WiFi to mobile data (Safaricom 4G) or vice versa. Different networks use different DNS resolvers and may have already updated.
Step 4 — Verify Nameservers Were Saved Correctly
Log into your domain registrar and confirm the nameservers show:
ns1.braysons.co.ke
ns2.braysons.co.ke
If they still show old nameservers, the change was not saved — repeat the process.
Step 5 — Check Your Hosting Account is Active
Log into your Braysons Host client portal and confirm your hosting plan is active and not suspended due to a pending invoice.
