How to Create a Subdomain in cPanel

Creating a Subdomain

Subdomains let you run separate websites or apps under your main domain — for example, shop.yourbusiness.co.ke or portal.yourbusiness.co.ke.

Step 1 — Open Subdomains in cPanel

1. Log into cPanel
2. Go to Domains → Subdomains

Step 2 — Create the Subdomain

1. In the Subdomain field, type the prefix (e.g., shop)
2. Select your main domain from the dropdown
3. The Document Root will auto-fill (e.g., public_html/shop) — you can change this
4. Click Create

Step 3 — Upload Files to the Subdomain

Navigate to the document root folder you set (e.g., public_html/shop) and upload your subdomain's files there.

Step 4 — Add SSL to the Subdomain

Go to SSL/TLS Status and run AutoSSL again — it will cover your new subdomain automatically.
